motivation

note

This was a ~failed experiment, but it informed my approach to sauna share.

Vision

A group of Christians who view their pursuit of physical excellence as a form of worship, not as something compartmentalized from their faith.
A group of guys lifting weights outside

Principles

  • Raise the ceiling, not the floor
  • Be absolutely shameless about our pursuit of excellence
  • Don't make myself the bottleneck

Conclusion

This is a failed experiment. My takeaways:

1) Find more common ground. The desire to run + lift, at exactly my level, is too narrow. I should find a more popular activity that's also more approachable.

2) Make scheduling easier. Requiring a large group to be synchronous is ~impossible, especially on weekends with kids (soccer seasons etc...)

3) Make it less explicitly faith-based. I want this to be approachable.

I'm going to make my next thing less intense & more approachable.

Progress

  • I've gauged some interest from my church (verbal support from 2 people, interest from pastor)
  • We need a more specific plan / project-management around this. It's still too fuzzy.
    • Next steps:
      • Research 3 similar ministries
      • Develop a specific idea
      • Recruit 2 more people to this specifically
